{diy list: food & drinks}

If any of you follow me on pinterest, then you know that I'm a pin-aholic. Seriously. And, because I have pinterest on my phone, I look like I have no life. Who is the girl pinning tutu tutorials at 1 am?  Thiiisss giiirrrrllll. (Insert mental image of me pointing both thumbs at myself.)

Back to point. I have a TON of wedding inspiration and a million things that I want to DIY/craft.
I made a list this morning while laying in bed, but I thought it looked pretty overwhelming to anyone else and well, it looked boring. Who wants to read a giant list of stuff that I want to make? Luh-ame. Instead, I thought I would kind of break it up by category and explain my ideas.

Let's start with food & drinks. Mostly because I haven't eaten breakfast yet and am hungry.

Eat:

We're going to do the catering ourselves. (Feel free to insert a gasp. This is the common response.) The guest list isn't nailed down by any means but we're expecting to invite 100-125 people. Our backyard wedding is a balance between backyard-homey-casual and special-expensive-fancy. The outcome? backyard-food-not-served-on-paper-plates. Specially, I think I want to do a gourmet burger bar. We will serve a couple different burger patties and a bunch of different toppings to make it fun and interactive. There will of course be bacon. Lots of bacon. Our side dishes will probably just be simple picnic side dishes: fruit, potato salad, veggies & dip, salad, etc.

Drink:

Our plans for beverages? Well, I'm excited you asked! We're going to have a beverage station with a couple different concoctions. Two non-alcoholic (lemonade & iced tea) and two signature drinks (something tropical & something traditional). Oh, and a couple of kegs. We will serve them out of large glass dispensers. Erm. Not the beer, of course. To make my mason jar lovin' heart beat a little faster, we'll use them as glasses. Not to mention I can buy them online for cheap in bulk and reuse them a million ways after the wedding. And just to make sure we have thought of everything, we'll use decorative duct tape to label the water bottles and store them in a tub'o'ice. I promise the duct tape + water bottles looks much less redneck-hick than it sounds. But, eh, if it does... well we both admit our families are kind of redneck-hick.

& be merry!:

For dessert, we will be dishin' up a dessert buffet. We already have a cupcake stand that we made for my 21st birthday. It needs some clean up and to be repainted but it is already made which pretty much equals zero to min added cost of the budget. Yep, I like that price. Specific desserts? Not really sure yet. We'll have cupcakes and a small cake to cut on the top but other than that we'll just let our little hearts go wild.

Anyone as hungry as I am? Ever catered your own wedding or huge party? Any advice or tricks to help it go a little smoother?
